Andrea Fox is beyond words - She is one to let her actions speak for themselves. She is the heart and soul of the late shift and a preceptor extraordinaire. Andrea takes all new staff under her wing, giving them support. She even continues to check on them months later, giving them encouragement and words of affirmation to any task they are unsure of.
Her Unit Manager tells of a patient that came to her office after being discharged to personally tell how Andrea saved his life. He had returned from an ENT follow up appointment where he shared his story to his physician about how she had cared for him, really fighting for his treatment with the physicians. The ENT physician told this patient he owed his life to Andrea. If she hadn't advocated so hard for his treatment, he would be visiting him in the ICU with a tube down his throat for an obstructed airway.
This same patient also shared that Andrea gave him her own phone so he could have a video call with his little children who were so worried about him.
So many words come to mind - nurturing, educator, teammate. Andrea is truly an extraordinary nurse! We are so fortunate to have her as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital!!
