I am a 63-year-old bladder cancer patient. The urology nurse, Andrea was the nurse who administered my weekly (6 wks) immunotherapy BCG treatment. This treatment requires inserting a catheter into my bladder instilling the 50cc of chemical BCG and removing the catheter afterward.
During my journey with bladder cancer, I have been catheterized by three different urologists and Andrea. This is a sensitive and very private process for me. Andrea proved to be far more skilled with the catheter insertion procedure than the 3 docs. She also listened very thoroughly to my complaints of discomfort with the procedure. After our discussion, she was able to locate a different diameter catheter and also allowed more time to numb my urethra prior to installation. This relieved my stress and anxiety and her care, skill, and resourcefulness similarly improved my experience and admiration of her abilities and expertise.
I wish to acknowledge and commend her for taking such great measures to resolve my discomfort and complete my six-week treatment.
