Andrea is a blessing in a time of uncertainty for her patients and their families.
My mom, age 97, was admitted from the ER for congestive heart failure. She was put on a bi-pap machine upon admission to the 3rd floor. Andrea was mom's nurse on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th day. She has a kind bedside manner. Encouraging to my mom. "Sis, you're getting better", "Sis, you're doing good." Informs mom of what meds she is giving, if she is going to adjust her in bed, take blood pressure, etc. She kept mom involved in knowing her care, even though mom was not completely alert most of the time. Reviewed mom's medication list and compared it to what mom was taking prior to admission. Made some notes to ask the doctors about new medications. Listens to Mom.

Mom asked, "What happened to me?" When she came out of sedation. Andrea told her, "You got sick and came to the hospital, but you're getting better now!" Mom was having severe leg pain, and Andrea requested x-rays and a low dosage of pain meds. When Mom was taken off of the BiPAP, Andrea called me shortly after I got home that evening to let me know. Andrea knew I was requesting mom be taken off of it, and she wanted to update me that she had been.

Although Andrea had several patients in her charge, she made me feel like mom was the only one she had, when she was caring for her. On day 4 I went home to take a nap, Andrea said she would call me if she needed to. She did call and alert me that after she washed Mom's hair, bathed her, and did oral care, Mom still wouldn't open her eyes. Day 5 was Andrea's day off, but she called to check on Mom. On day 6 I made her comfort care and texted Andrea since it was her day off. Andrea responded with the sweetest text. Day 7 mom passed away. I texted Andrea to let her know. She texted back a kind and reassuring message. Andrea also dealt very well with family members who struggled with the situation. Andrea is a blessing in a time of uncertainty for her patients and their families.
