I would like to recognize Andrea for being kind, authentic, supportive, genuine, and caring when responding to the needs of her team and her patients, as well as when serving the underserved and vulnerable members of our community.
I would like to nominate Andrea Mainu for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.  Andrea has been a leader at ANW for a year.  In that time, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in how she supports our staff and our patients.  I have three examples to share from the past couple of months alone.

1.    First, we have a patient on W5500 who will soon be approaching one year of hospitalization at ANW. For his 90th birthday, Andrea brought in a cake and assisted staff in planning a surprise birthday party for him.  Over 50 staff from around the hospital came to the unit to sign Happy Birthday and enjoy cake with him.  Though Andrea will be the first to give credit to her staff, I know that the celebration would not have been possible without the leader's support and the coordination of others.  This patient was truly humbled and expressed his gratitude for being celebrated.  He has no family or friend support in his life and Andrea stepped up to show him his life matters and all should be given dignity and honor on such a momentous occasion.

2.    The ANW IV team has been doing a food drive for the Division of Indian Works for the past three years.  This year is Andrea’s first year leading this team.  She wholeheartedly supported the team in continuing to support this beloved non-profit in our community, through their efforts to raise over 1,600 pounds of food for the Division Of Indian Works food shelf.

3.    Andrea is a volunteer at Hope 4 Youth, a non-profit that supports homeless youth in our community. She has been collecting unused healthcare scrubs to donate to homeless youth who are seeking employment in healthcare. Not only is she supporting the youth by giving them the means to access meaningful employment, but she is also encouraging them to enter healthcare. They are the future of the healthcare workforce in our community.

I would like to recognize Andrea for being kind, authentic, supportive, genuine, and caring when responding to the needs of her team and her patients, as well as when serving the underserved and vulnerable members of our community.  She is a person of strong character and integrity.  She is a role model for her staff and her peers.  We are very fortunate to have her on our ANW leadership team.  She is truly the embodiment of what it means to be a servant & transformational leader at Allina Health.
