September 2025 Honoree
Andrea McNeill, BSN, RN
Andrea went above and beyond when my husband's culture results could not be found, which resulted in Infectious Diseases not being able to provide a consult that was ordered three days earlier. He needed to be on IV antibiotics, which was the only type of antibiotic his infection was shown to be susceptible to.
Getting the best antibiotic for his infection was critically important in his immunocompromised state, as he is 5 months post-stem cell transplant. Andrea was diligent in researching through his medical record until she found the test results. She contacted the pharmacist, who strongly encouraged my husband to go to the ER so he would be able to get the IV antibiotics without any further delay.
He was admitted that night and was able to begin IV antibiotics to keep his infection from progressing. Andrea perhaps saved his life, for which we are very grateful.
