Andrea’s thoughtfulness and caring towards both her patients and coworkers is palpable and inspiring.
Andrea was recognized by a couple of her colleagues. This is a summary of the wonderful things her colleagues have shared about her:
“I’ve looked up to Andrea ever since I started working here, and she is exactly the type of nurse I strive to become. She is kind, inclusive, and welcoming. She is great at thinking calmly and critically about a situation – both when I come to her for advice or when she is giving me a report on her patient, she keeps the patient at the forefront and has great questions to bring up to the team to ensure the patient is getting the best care possible. In emergent situations, she has a great ability to stay calm and think clearly.”
“Andrea is wonderful, fostering a culture of helping people. She’s reliable, a phenomenal resource, so helpful, kind, such a team player, and hard worker.”
“Andrea’s thoughtfulness and caring towards both her patients and coworkers is palpable and inspiring. An example of this was when there were no visitors, Andrea was taking care of a 21-year-old patient. She took the time to anonymously arrange for there to be a Happy Birthday sign and decorations in the patient’s room to make the ‘cell day’ (day of the patient’s stem cell transplant) extra special. Her patients consistently ask when she is returning to work, or if they can work with her again. Andrea does similarly thoughtful things for her colleagues, bringing in treats / writing a card or shouting her colleagues out for all sorts of reasons (when she notices someone was extra helpful, had a rough day or has a reason to celebrate).”
“She has a grace about her. She is constantly looking for ways to improve our unit and the system, yet she never complains. When I talk with her about feedback –whether it’s how to best approach a patient refusing a bed alarm or approach an intimidating provider on a question about an order, she is able to help me navigate and approach it in a constructive, thoughtful, and solution-oriented way.”
Andrea is so highly looked up to and admired by her colleagues and patients. Her name is brought up with gratitude in the multitude of ways she has helped shape the culture of 8NE and given voice to her patients and colleagues. Andrea is an exemplary nurse in her compassion, clinical knowledge, and leadership, and we’re so lucky to have her here at UWMC!
