August 2024 Honoree
Andres Alderete
Andres was recognized by a patient's family who sought out the clinical instructor to tell her how this student made such a difference during the loss of their loved one. The patient became critical and required a code team's help. The patient's wife was asked to step out of the room as they provided care for the patient. The patient's daughter said Andres saw her mom in distress and comforted her. He didn’t want her to be alone and stayed with her during the code. The family was grateful that Andres showed them compassion during this difficult situation. The daughter told the clinical instructor that something seemingly so small meant so much in that moment and she couldn’t thank him enough for that act of kindness. This happened during his 6th-semester clinical rotation, and he demonstrated this without being prompted. This is what nursing is all about.
Thank you, Andres, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
