I've worked with Andrew for several years and have always been impressed with his knowledge, calm demeanor, therapeutic care, and overall culture of inclusivity. Andrew is attentive and present even with his most stable patients. Recently he was chatting with an older trauma patient who had been involved in a MVC. He noticed the patient change in their ability to communicate and immediately alerted the team to his concern of a CVA. The patient was taken to intervention within minutes and a thrombectomy was successfully performed giving the patient the absolute best chance at a full recovery.
Andrew is a strong charge nurse and preceptor. He consistently looks to improve the function of the department and goes the extra mile. Andrew has an unassuming yet wickedly sharp sense of humor. If my family needs care here in the ED, I would be unquestionably elated to have him be their nurse. Probably one of the biggest compliments from a colleague in a department that practices team nursing was this, "if I'm in a zone with Andrew, I don't try to switch out.
