He routinely advocates for the Veterans by ensuring they receive the highest quality of care possible. This is noted during code blues and rapid responses when he responds and remains by the Veteran’s side from beginning to end to ensure that the Veterans receive life-saving treatment timely.
Mr. Burrell consistently displays the I CARE principles. His peers view him as a model employee who often sacrifices himself for the good of the organization to ensure that the mission of Overton Brooks VA Medical Center is accomplished. Mr. Burrell is the assistant nurse manager of the stepdown unit, but you can find him working in various areas throughout nursing service in any capacity that will benefit the organization. He does so with an overabundance of positivity, professionalism, enthusiasm, and a smile. During critical staffing shortages, he volunteered to work as the NOD and cross-trained to work as a dialysis nurse. He also volunteers to work as a staff nurse on other inpatient units. You will never hear Mr. Burrell say, “That is not my job.” Instead, you will hear him say, “How may I help? or “I will do it.” He works diligently to complete any task to the best of his abilities. His commitment is noted by his rearranging his personal schedule time after time to work extended hours so there is adequate staffing to care for the Veterans on the step-down unit. After working extended hours, you can rest assured that Mr. Burrell will be back bright and early the next morning for his scheduled tour to continue his mission to honor America’s heroes. He routinely advocates for the Veterans by ensuring they receive the highest quality of care possible. This is noted during code blues and rapid responses when he responds and remains by the Veteran’s side from beginning to end to ensure that the Veterans receive life-saving treatment timely. He is always willing to share his critical care skills and knowledge. Recently, he took the lead in helping improve the safety of medication administration by creating titratable drip order sets. He continues to work diligently to ensure that the order sets are routinely updated based on current safety guidelines. This clearly demonstrates Mr. Burrell's commitment to providing excellent care and service to the Veterans, 6N, Nursing Service, and Overton Brooks VA Medical Center.
