Andrew advocates for patients and staff and makes positive procedural changes without ever undermining the authority and integrity of the organization. He doesn’t engage in negativity but offers solutions to problems.
Andrew was nominated for the DAISY Award because he embodies compassion, integrity and excellence in nursing. Andrew not only provides comfort and hope for healing to every patient he cares for, but he also brings an extraordinary sense of support to every staff member he works with. His gentle manner and confident approach bring a sense of reassurance to both patients and staff, even in very difficult situations. He offers the same respect and compassion to every patient in his care, no matter how resistant or obstinate they might be. He represents CHI Lasting Hope Recovery Center to the community with expertise and professionalism, whether, during crisis calls, police responding to mental health crises, or area hospitals calling for advice or placement.

Andrew advocates for patients and staff and makes positive procedural changes without ever undermining the authority and integrity of the organization. He doesn’t engage in negativity but offers solutions to problems.

Andrew takes on various roles and steps out of his comfort zone to give support to staff when crises occur. He is frequently called to various units when patients are threatening or out of control and puts himself at risk in order to ensure the safety of patients and staff. He is always willing to float to other units and to function as House Supervisor when needed.

Recently, when a serious medical crisis occurred due to a patient choking on food and being unable to breathe, Andrew jumped into action without a moment’s notice. He grabbed the patient, pulled him up off the bed, and performed the Heimlich maneuver at such a quick pace that by the time staff entered the room from just steps away, the patient was sitting on the floor, gasping for air with a stunned look on his face. The patient feared for his life and he was very fortunate to have Andrew as his nurse.

The co-worker who nominated Andrew stated, “I am thankful for every day that I get to work alongside such an amazing person. I wish Andrew’s wife and children could see him care for patients in such a challenging environment. They would be so proud of the outstanding service he provides to this community.”
