I would like to take this time to highlight Andrew because he has given his all and has made it necessary to be present and available when so many others were unavailable.
Andrew was nominated for the DAISY Award simply because he's amazing! He already works a full schedule with a patient, but many times when there was an open shift, 99.9% of the time, Andrew would fill in. Just to give an example of how amazing: a patient who has an extensive Itinerary with Outings on a week-to-week basis, sometimes would average 1-2 outings per week and sometimes more depending on the season, whether it was bowling, adaptive cycling, karaoke, family gatherings, fishing or watching a Live Band, just to name a few. Andrew was always willing to accompany the patient because he didn't want him to miss out on any kind of activities; he was excited for the patient and wanted him to be happy.
With all due respect, I am not excluding any of the other Staff that has willingly and happily accompanied this patient on his outings, but I would like to take this time to highlight Andrew because he has given his all and has made it necessary to be present and available when so many others were unavailable. Andrew was not only available to attend the outings but he would be concerned whenever I called him regarding filling in for open shifts, for example: just recently this patient needed a Nurse for the Day Shift and no one was available. I was very apprehensive about asking Andrew for help because everyone in the Scheduling Department, including (Clinical Supervisor) knows how much Andrew works.
It was just recently that I asked Andrew to help us out with a short-notice shift and his reply was, "Yes I need to be there because he has Therapy that day. I will go." It means a lot to me that Andrew would respect a man that was extensive physical limitations and does not take any moments of his life for granted but wants to live and enjoy his life. Andrew is very much appreciated and all of his hard work and sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.
