Andy Rollins, RN cared for a patient during a time when there was much uncertainty for the patient (after having learned of a new diagnosis). Mr. G was extremely anxious worrying that he would not be able to survive as a result of the diagnosis.

“Six months ago my wife and I discovered we would be welcoming a baby boy. Unfortunately our excitement was cut short recently when I was diagnosed. During this time I was afraid. I was afraid for myself and my health but I was also afraid that I would never meet my son, that I would not be able to be there for my wife and when you love someone as I love my wife, you don’t want to miss a moment with them.”

Andy took the time, often during his meal breaks to make Mr. G comfortable, happy and assured. “Whenever I needed something he was quick to respond, always with a smile.”

According to Mr. G.: “After my loved ones had gone home, the doctors stopped popping in to poke and prod me and I was left only with my thoughts that would consistently wander to scary thoughts. With no one there to quell these thoughts, I would have absolutely dreaded the nighttime if not for your nurse Andy. He truly went above and beyond what I assume to be his job to make sure that not only was I comfortable but that I was emotionally sound. He spent time talking to me, later what I learned was during his dinner break. He calmed my nerves when he saw that I was struggling with my predicament and he would stop in to make sure I was okay. I could only imagine how busy Andy was with so many patients and I was astonished by the care and attention he was able to dedicate to me. I can honestly tell you that I would have not been able to make it through those nights in one piece, emotionally, if not for Andy.”
