Andy McKeown, RN
Andy took several hours from his management day to ensure that a PICU patient (who has been in the hospital and PICU for a significant amount of time) could go for a shower in the neighboring Ward 7 and then took him out into the garden in the hot weather. The patient and family had a massively positive experience.
Andy and the team who accompanied him were overwhelmed with happiness to have done this, seeing as the patient had had such a stormy initial admission in PICU. Now in the rehabilitation phase of his journey, this activity is a reminder that something so simple can be so important to our patient and families.
Andy inspires me every day. He has been in nursing since 1989 and still has the compassion and motivation to make a patient smile and offer the best detailed bedside care anyone would wish for a child in a hospital.
