Andy Santana, RN

Andy exhibited true care, compassion, and leadership to assure patient safety. 

Upon assessment of his patient’s IV, he noted an unusual amount of bright red blood return. He then listened to his instinct that something was not right. Andy then paged IV Team to help identify any issue. 

As I approached the patient’s room, Andy was quick to explain what was happening and remained at the bedside to help find a solution. 

Throughout the almost two hours of following events, Andy was quick, thorough, and efficient in helping coordinate with multiple providers while still caring for a full patient assignment. 

Without Andy’s instinct to gain further insight on an odd request, this patient could have come to extreme harm. 

Andy demonstrated true nursing care and compassion for exactly what the DAISY Award represents! Thank you, Andy, for being an Extraordinary Nurse!
