Andy Sass, RN on 7S is an extraordinary nurse. He is very competent, conscientious and the "meaning of care". Andy always goes above and beyond to provide the best care for his patients and all the patients on 7 South. Andy is always willing to help others on the unit. He never walks by a call light without stopping in the patient's room to see how he can assist them. His bright smile and calm nature are welcoming to all patients and visitors on the floor.
One evening, a gentleman patient on 7S began choking on a piece of food that was lodged in his throat. The staff emergency button sounded and Andy of course was one of the first nurses to respond and assist. He was able to get the patient to his feet, get behind him and perform the Heimlich maneuver and was able to dislodge the foreign body from the patient's throat. Without Andy's assistance this event could have had a much grimmer outcome. The family was in the room and was witness to Andy's quick actions that saved their father's life.
