We were very lucky that Annie was our daughter's night nurse and day nurse many times on 12NW. Annie's upbeat, happy personality immediately brightens your day.
My daughter is 21 years old and has severe special needs. She recently spent 7+ weeks at CHOP. During the stay, she spent 5 weeks on the General Peds floor - 12NW. This was the toughest hospitalization of her 21 years. On 12NW, we met many wonderful doctors, nurses, and nurses' aides. One nurse stood out, Annie Doren. We were very lucky that Annie was our daughter's night nurse and day nurse many times on 12NW. Annie's upbeat, happy personality immediately brightens your day. On each shift, she always established and discussed a schedule for the day according to the care needed - and kept to that schedule - which I, as the patient's mom, really appreciated. Each time she left the room, she would always ask if we needed anything else. Even on days when she was assigned to other patients, Annie would pop in to see how our daughter was doing. Our daughter had many tough days on the 12NW unit, and when I saw on the patient board that Annie was our nurse on a given day - it truly lifted my spirits. We had many nursing students caring for us during our stay. I witnessed Annie teaching the straight cath procedure and was very impressed by her clinical instruction. She provided the best clinical care, while also showing genuine compassion and concern for her patients and their families. We will always be grateful to Annie for taking such good care of our daughter during that time on 12NW!
