I was admitted for open-heart surgery to receive a mechanical heart valve. I moved out of ICU and up to C8. I was fortunate enough to have Angela on the scariest day of my stay. On Tuesday, I felt off that morning, and during one of her scheduled times to do blood work or pills. She sensed my despair, and I just started crying. She came over to me, held my hand, offered me comfort, and showed she cared. Later that afternoon, I ended up needing to go to the OR for emergency surgery for extra chest tubes to aid in the removal of fluid building in my chest cavity. When I returned to C8 the next day, I was hoping to see her again. I did, and again, I cried and thanked her for her compassion at a time when it was truly needed.
