I am writing this on behalf of my father. After being sick for 3 months with what we thought was pneumonia, then a potential lung cancer diagnosis, my brother and I insisted our father be transported down to Indianapolis from Kokomo. We were greeted with Nurse Angie, who despite being a Yankees fan (ha ha) became an instant friend to my dad and my mom (who he continued to jokingly refer to as his girlfriend).
Whenever Angie came into the room, she instantly brought a smile to my dad's face, and whether or not she found my dad's jokes funny or not, she treated him as if he was the stand-up comedian of the year!
Angie's care and her sensitivity to both my father and mother were second to none. Knowing that Angie was there to look after my dad when I had to leave for work or go home to my own family made the departure easier for sure.
Unfortunately, I wasn't there the day my father was released to thank Angie properly for her care, but my dad took her flowers he had actually received to show his appreciation. She made an impact on a very sick man and his family.
She is absolutely the epitome of what an outstanding nurse is and should strive to be. I'm quite sure Angie has bad days just like the rest of us, but you would never know it. Her constant smile and positive demeanor helped us all to remain that way too.
Again, I couldn't be there to thank her for everything she did for my dad, my mom (and his girlfriend ha ha), but just being able to recognize her in this small way seemed like the very least I could do. We had numerous nurses during my dad's 10-day stay, but not one of them made the impact on him (or us) that Angie Granger did. She is absolutely deserving of this recognition and I think as an organization you'd be hard-pressed to find a better nurse!
