It is a great privilege to nominate Angela Kurth for this DAISY Award. My husband was not expected to live, but miraculously he did, and his first nurse was Angela. If I could list all of the qualities I wish every nurse had, I would be describing Angela. She is very kind and compassionate, and very knowledgeable, taking extraordinary care of my husband and respecting his dignity as she did. I think this is something very important to patients. They are often in a position where they are not making all of their own choices and feel they have lost some of their dignity, and my husband never felt this way under Angela's care. Angela always made us feel that my husband was important to her and she showed true interest and enjoyment in the stories he told her as they walked. She understands and appreciates people and communicates this easily to the people she is with. Angela was an excellent advocate for my husband. People who have loved ones in the hospital do not always know which questions to ask or what to ask for, and Angela took on this role to get my husband everything that would help him heal and return home. We are so very grateful to Angela for this compassion and devotion. Angela does this job each day with grace, dignity, exceptional knowledge, empathy, and compassion. She helped my husband heal physically, and she started all of us on the road to healing emotionally.
