E's sickness rapidly deteriorated, but since it was caught so early by such an astute nurse, she is alive today.
Angela was our nurse for our first morning post-delivery. On her first visit to the room, she noticed something "off" about baby E, who was only 13 hours old. She immediately started doing more checks than usual, a heel stick and pulse oxygen checks, which led her to call in the neonatal specialist. As it turns out, Angela had identified early stages of a systemic infection and meningitis, which was escalated to the Boulder NICU and required helicopter transport to Children's Hospital. E's sickness rapidly deteriorated, but since it was caught so early by such an astute nurse, she is alive today and will likely have no or limited lasting impacts. I am so grateful for her care for us on that stressful and scary day.
