Angela Lee, RN
I am honored to recognize Angela Lee, RN, for the DAISY Award for the exceptional care she provided to my mother at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
From the moment Angela entered the room, she demonstrated a level of compassion, professionalism, and kindness that immediately put both my mother and me at ease. She was friendly, positive, and attentive, always taking the time to speak directly to both of us and ensuring our questions and concerns were addressed. Every time she left the room, she would ask if there was anything else we needed, making us feel truly cared for rather than just another patient assignment.
My mother developed pressure ulcers while residing in a skilled nursing facility, and Angela took exceptional care in treating and monitoring these wounds. She carefully explained the importance of proper wound care and educated us on the risks of the sores progressing deeper into the tissue and potentially affecting the bone. Her willingness to share her knowledge helped us better understand my mother's condition and what to watch for moving forward.
What truly set Angela apart was her willingness to go above and beyond. During our conversation, she shared that her own mother had experienced similar ulcers. Because of that personal experience, she understood both the physical and emotional challenges our family was facing.
She took the initiative to look up a specialized foam bandage product on her phone, found the company information, and provided it to me so I could explore purchasing the bandages after my mother leaves the hospital. This was not something she was required to do, but she recognized a need and took extra time to help our family beyond the bedside.
Angela's clinical skill was outstanding, but it was her empathy and genuine concern that made the greatest impact. She connected with us not only as a nurse but as someone who truly understood our situation. Her kindness, encouragement, and personal investment in my mother's care made a difficult time much easier to navigate.
