One evening, Angela called to say she would bring her pony.
My loved one has Alzheimer’s. She has been bed-bound at home for about five years, hasn’t spoken for a few years, and doesn’t see well. She has been in hospice for several months. When Angela came as our nurse, we were talking and discovered that she liked horses, and my loved one has always loved animals, especially horses. I told Angela she ought to bring one for her to see.
One evening, Angela called to say she would bring her pony. When she arrived, the pony walked right up the ramp and into the living room where her bed is (I don’t think the pony had ever been in a house before!). The pony put his head by her, and she touched his nose. Her eyes brightened, and she had a small smile. Angela helped her touch the pony and spoke to her softly.
Angela had a big smile on her face, too. She enjoyed the moment as much as my loved one. I loved watching her react the way she hadn’t for a long while. I just want to thank Angela for this special time.
