This particular situation happened on a very busy weekend. Angela and I were both working on the same side of the unit. My first admission was at 0715 with two discharged written by 0800. She saw that I was trying to complete three important tasks, two discharges and an admission simultaneously and she completely discharged one of my patients for me so that I would be less stressed and so that my patients could receive the best care/best results by having optimum face time with their nurse. Immediately after my patient was discharged I was getting a call from the ED for a new admission. Angela volunteered to take the admission because she would be discharging a patient soon. When I told her she didn’t have to do that because I already had an empty room she replied, “It needs to be fair, you just had an admission, let me take this one.” Angela didn’t even think twice about going above and beyond to help me. She saw an area of need, both for me and my patient, and jumped right in to help.
