Angie Rhinehart was my preceptor during my last semester of nursing school at George Washington University. I shadowed her on the postpartum unit and quickly, she made me feel like one of her colleagues. Of all my clinical and post-graduate experience, I have never worked with or experienced another nurse like her. Other than being charismatic, patient, skilled, empathetic, and understanding, her natural light shines in everything that she does.
Since my experience with Angie, I strive to emulate all that she is in my own practice. She is a direct reflection of what I hope to be as a nurse. She was a key asset to every child's healthcare and treated every parent, family, and newborn as if they were her own. She alleviated the concern of new mothers who expressed fear of caring for a small life, taught parents without knowledge of what to do, and supported single mothers without a plan.
While studying for the NCLEX, I was taught to consider that in NCLEX World, our time and attention is fully given to the patient in a question; no distractions, obstacles, or other tasks outside of that patient room. During my clinical experience, I quickly realized that this was not always possible.
However, Angie somehow achieves that while completing all her tasks thoroughly, with exceptional quality, and patient satisfaction.
I nominate Angie Rhinehart for the DAISY Award and cannot imagine another person more deserving. She goes beyond miles for her patients, colleagues, and students and epitomizes all that a nurse should be.
