Our son entered the world weighing only 1lb 13oz and 13 inches long. I was only 25 weeks pregnant. He was born at Baptist East but was then transferred to Baptist South NICU because he needed a certain type of ventilator. My baby was so tiny and needed so much help. At what was supposed to be a happy time in our life ended up being so scary.
Angie Rice was our first-day nurse that my baby had. We fell in love with her that same day! She comforted us and made us feel like everything was going to be okay. We had no clue what was to come but knowing that nurses like Angie would be taking care of our sweet boy made us feel at ease. We just felt the love Angie had for her babies and especially our baby boy.
When we would walk into his room and saw it was Angie taking care of him, we would instantly get smiles on our face. On the hardest days, she would be there to help us through them. Even on days, Angie was not taking care of our baby she would always come see us and check on him and us. Angie was there for everything from coming off the ventilator to switching to the CPAP and then finally getting on the cannula. She was there for his first bottle and when he was moved to an open crib and then on the day we got to room in with him.
I think Angie deserves The DAISY Award because she goes above and beyond taking care of her babies and their parents too. We love all of our NICU nurses. They are all amazing and special people. They didn't just help our baby get through some of the toughest months of his life but they helped us as well. My baby left the NICU after 118 days. It was hard saying goodbye to our NICU family. We still go back and visit often and we always make sure Angie is there so we get to see her. We love you Angie! We really hope you receive the DAISY Award because you deserve it!
