Angela Ricker, RN

I am honored to commend Angie Ricker for the exceptional, compassionate care she provided to my mother during her stay at Hospice House, as well as the support she extended to me as her daughter.

Angie demonstrated an extraordinary level of professionalism, empathy, and attentiveness. She consistently provided care that went beyond clinical responsibility, ensuring my mother was not only comfortable but also seen, heard, and valued as a person.

What made her care especially meaningful was her ability to connect on a deeply human level. My mother had a strong personality and a lifetime of stories behind her, and Angie met her exactly where she was—matching her humor, respecting her individuality, and taking time to learn her preferences and routines. She cared for her with patience and dignity, always paying attention to the small details that made a big difference in her comfort and self-esteem. Mom especially loved and praised her nightly bedtime routine with Angie: a caring back rub- an art that is often forgotten, but one that Angie consistently gives to every patient she cares for.

Even in moments when my mother was declining and unresponsive, Angie continued to speak to her gently, treat her with respect, and provide thoughtful, dignified care. She never treated her as “just another patient,” but always as someone truly important.

One particularly meaningful example was the way Angie supported me, despite me being her supervisor. She recognized my anxiety, acknowledged it directly, and encouraged me to take care of myself. She gave me permission to step back and simply be my mother's daughter, reassuring me that she would handle the family dynamics causing me anxiety. She didn't hesitate to treat me any differently despite our work roles. She offered comfort and steady encouragement and checked in frequently on her days off. She reminded me, "This is what we do; we know how to handle difficult situations."

Angie ensured my mother felt loved and cared for, even stating, "We love your momma," and thoughtfully clarifying, "this version of your momma." While a simple statement, it carried deep meaning for me and supported my healing in ways I will never forget.

I was able to make the most meaningful memories I have ever had with my mother at Hospice House. Helping her stand and dance to one of her favorite songs, "Last Dance." Climbing into her hospital bed at her request to have conversations of forgiveness and laughing freely with staff after initial embarrassment following one of her many inappropriate declarations. I'm now able to say proudly that I too loved that version of my mother. Healing a piece of me that I have searched for my entire life.

I've always known Angie is an extraordinary nurse and a true gift to patients, families, and our organization. I will forever be grateful for what she did for my momma and for helping heal a part of me!
