Angela Rosenthal, RN
I was treated in the ER at San Martin for an acute bronchospasm event with chest tightness and low oxygen levels. I was sleep-deprived and grumpy; Angela Rosenthal in the ER provided exceptional care. She was calm, attentive, and highly knowledgeable, and she respectfully kept me in my place (because I know how to get out of line real quick; because my wife is a nurse, I can be automatically dismissive of medical care explained to me).
While coordinating and administering my treatments (including a prolonged nebulizer treatment, IV fluids, and steroid medication, she consistently explained what was happening in a way that reduced my anxiety and helped me feel safe and supported during a frightening situation. Her professionalism and compassion made a lasting difference, and I’m grateful for the care she provided.
What stood out most was how she treated me like a person, not a task.
During Angela’s discharge teaching, she took the time to give thorough, easy-to-understand medication instructions and made sure I knew what each medication was for, how to use it correctly, and what to watch for. She also offered a practical, encouraging perspective that I won’t forget: “You’re going to get real good at identifying what works and what doesn’t over the coming months.” That simple statement helped me feel more prepared, less overwhelmed, and more confident that I could manage this responsibility after leaving the hospital.
I am commending Angela because she delivered exactly what the DAISY Award is meant to recognize: extraordinary nursing care that blends expertise with empathy and leaves a lasting impact on the patient.
