Angie is always an advocate for her patients. She anticipates their needs and goes above and beyond to do things for her patients to make them the most comfortable. Just as Patrick Barnes loved Cinnabons, Angie is well known for making homemade milk shakes and homemade slushies out of popsicles and juice for her oncology patients who often have sores in their mouths from Chemotherapy. Other nurses would just say "we don't carry slushies or milk shakes," but Angie goes the extra mile. Patients have often mentioned that that milk shake had made all the difference to them (just as the Cinnabons did to Patrick). She has also brought items in from home or stopped at restaurants on the way to work for her patients. She always develops a special bond with her patients and has a calming relationship with their parents. She herself has had each of her 3 children in our hospital at different times and really speaks from experience when she is being empathetic to her patients. Angie is mentioned all the time on family rounds for going the extra mile and keeping the patients and families informed. She is a senior nurse who cares for the most complex patients. She is a charge nurse and she advocates for her patients by seeking out other members of the interdisciplinary team to best help her patient. She has a special place in her heart for the oncology population and is a phenomenal bedside nurse. She is very worthy of being recognized with this special award.
