Due to Angie's dedication, the patient was able to get the surgery they needed.
Angie Shawver is one of the best nurses and most caring people that I know. She has a million things that she does every day that show how truly compassionate, caring, dedicated, and skilled she is. She is one who will sit down, clock-in, and if that phone rings in the first 30 seconds of her clocking in, she is still going to answer it. She stays over when needed to make sure that all problems that were priority to get done for the day are completed. The main story though that I believe truly gives the best example of her being someone who deserves a DAISY Award is about a pediatric patient. This patient was scheduled to have surgery, but they needed to have a form from our office faxed over prior to the surgery being OK. The guardian of the patient called the day before the surgery and told Angie that the Surgery Center did not have the right paperwork, so they were threatening to cancel the surgery that the patient had been waiting on for awhile to get completed. Now, Angie is not one who asks for help from others because she is a hard worker, and she does not want to burden anyone else, but she was concerned about this patient. She checked in and noticed that the paperwork had been faxed three times. She then called the Surgery Center, and left multiple voicemails saying that she needed to speak with someone that day in order to figure this out. Meanwhile, she was getting backed up on voicemails and other paperwork. So Angie, asked me to help her out because she knew how important it was that this patient get the surgery that they needed. Most staff in this setting would say that they did their job by taking the guardian's call, faxing the paperwork again, and leaving a voicemail, and that being it, but not Angie. Angie got the help that she needed in order to get this patient the appropriate care that they needed. After leaving a few more voicemails for the Surgery Center, Angie finally was able to speak to a person, and they found out that the fax number on the form was incorrect. Angie was able to get the correct fax number and get the forms over to the Center, but they continued to say that they did not get them. It was then that Angie noticed that the patient's name was spelled wrong on the request that we had received from the Surgery Center. Angie was able to figure out that not only did we have the wrong fax number, but also, the Surgery Center didn't have the patient's name spelled right, so they were not looking for the correct forms under the correct patient's name. Due to Angie's dedication, the patient was able to get the surgery they needed. Angie does things like this a lot, and she is one of the hardest workers here at Jay Family Practice. I cannot think of anyone else who is more deserving of a DAISY Award.
