“From the very moment she stepped into the room and said good morning with a big smile, was a heart-felt changing moment for me. It is hard enough to be in the hospital but also to travel a long distance and then trust in a person is hard to do….but not with Angela. “
Angela was nominated by a patient who had been in and out the hospital setting for the last 7 years. During her most recent admission, she was transferred to UMC after being hospitalized in another facility for 4 days previously. “Being in the hospital is never fun, but she made me feel comfortable…like staying with family or a friend. I never felt like a bother to her. Instead she me made me feel comfortable even though my situation was not. Every time that I needed her help, she was right there and very patient. She has such a sweet heart; you could just feel the love. This is what nursing is about! Helping hands are real! In all of my admissions, I have never had such a special experience.”
The patient then described that she was from out of town, family was present but that money was tight. Angela provided her with all the necessities she and her family needed. She was impressed by the fact that this nurse not only provided for her but also provided care for her family. “Angela always asked us if there was anything we needed or anything she could do for us.”
