Angelica cared for her patient after his total joint replacement and they had an instant connection. The patient expressed how loving and kind Angelica was. What they didn't realize until a bit later, was their connection was much deeper. The patient had recently recovered from COVID-19 and was in critical care battling the illness during the time that Angelica's father was as well. They began talking about their experiences with COVID-19 and Angelica shared with him about her dad.
The patient was immensely grateful to Angelica and inspired by her courage. He stated that he isn't sure how she was able to get back on the frontlines after experiencing so much heartbreak, but that she is a true hero. To be able to be cared for by Angelica was an honor. Angelica has demonstrated so much strength during this time. She continues to pour her heart into the care of her patients. When you ask Angelica how she does it, she states that it's all to honor her father. The patient and I both believe Angelica completely encompasses the heart and soul of a DAISY Award recipient.
