Angelo is one of the hardest working people I know, and his hard work shows. His passion for nursing is evident in the care provided to patients, the willingness to lend a hand and jump to resolve a tough situation, his eagerness to learn and educate others is contagious. His demeanor is infectious and makes us all want to spread the same extraordinary compassion and care.
On top of his incredible intelligence, Angelo exhibits the most compassionate comprehensive approach to nursing, truly looking at nursing holistically, addressing patients' needs both physical and psychological. He shows limitless compassion and patience for all, even in times when it is hardest to do. From easing a patient's passing to consoling the family. His patients always talk about how he goes above and beyond. All his patients love him and always rave about the care they received.
One particular day that stands out, Angelo had my assignment the day before. One patient told me how Angelo worked tirelessly to help her get comfortable, spending an extensive amount of time positioning and re-positioning pillows and finding a special pump to make the mattress more comfortable. Then finally, finding a position where she could find some alleviation of the pain and discomfort and get some desperately needed rest. Moreover, she talked about how he continued to check on her and ensure she had everything she needed and was comfortable. She added that she felt like he genuinely cared for her like a member of his family. The patient even mentioned how special he made her feel that he peeked in on his day off.
On the same day, another patient who had been going through a rough time physically and emotionally told me how Angelo just sat down and listened to her, giving her his undivided attention. She told me how important that was to her and how it felt like the first time someone cared enough to hear what she is going through. She had just given her baby up for adoption and been abandoned by her husband, and on top of it, she was sick in the hospital. She talked about how his compassion, kindness, and words of encouragement made her feel like there was hope for her to make changes in her life and current situation. Most of the staff look up to him (and not just because of his height) and hope to become the rare breed of nurse he is. He inspires everyone around him to be better, kinder, and smarter. With an infectious demeanor that makes us all want to spread the same extraordinary compassion and care. The respect he has earned from coworkers, doctors, and patients is indisputable.
