There was a patient who was in ICU on a ventilator and sedated. Her husband was a patient on 5N who was receiving end of life care on hospice. Angie was Rapid on this day, and she took time out of her busy day to coordinate with the bedside nursing staff on both units to bring the patient's husband down to the ICU, so his wife could be with him for a short period of time as he was passing. Angie advocated for the two beds to be placed next to each other so the couple could hold hands and see each other for what might be the last time. The wife's sedation was put on hold, and she was able to communicate what she wanted to say by writing on a dry-erase board. The husband was minimally responsive, but we could all tell he was aware he was in the presence of his wife and was trying to communicate with her the best he could. The amount of compassion Angie shows each and every day at work is admirable. She has been such a wonderful role model to every nurse she has crossed paths with. Her patients and IU Ball are extremely lucky to have her.
