Angie spoke life back into me when I felt hopeless.
I've been blessed to have Angie care for me during two different hospital stays. She made me feel something no one else ever has in a hospital setting: safe, valued, and truly cared for.

Angie isn't just a nurse who gives medication, checks vitals, or does her rounds, though she does all of that with excellence. What makes her different is that she goes beyond medicine. She talks with you. She asks about your daughter, your goals, your fears, and the obstacles that weigh heavily on you. She remembers your story and treats you like you matter. For someone like me, with a history of substance abuse and a past in an abusive relationship, her words and encouragement meant more than I can ever explain. Angie spoke life back into me when I felt hopeless.

One night, I had a roommate who was very cruel to me, shouting, cursing, and making me feel unsafe. Angie overheard it and immediately stepped in, not because that patient was hers, but because I was. She stood up for me, told the other woman to stop, and then reassured me, "Kelly, for the rest of the night, I'll be right outside your door. You don't have anything to worry about." And she meant it. From that moment, I felt safe in a way I never had before.

As discharge time got closer, I became anxious and afraid to leave. I had been in the hospital so long that it felt safer than the unknown outside. Angie noticed. She didn't brush it off. Instead, she helped me find the strength and courage to take the next step in my life.

What makes Angie phenomenal isn't just her skills; it's her heart. She is tough when she needs to be, but you can feel that it comes from love. She's nurturing, compassionate, and gives so much of herself, even while carrying her own pain. I learned that Angie lost her oldest son in a tragic accident, and yet, even in the midst of her grief, she still showed up for me and countless others. She once told me, "Caring for other people is what helps me heal." That sentence has stayed with me ever since, giving me strength whenever I feel broken.

I will never forget Angie. She is a rare and precious soul, and Rochester General is lucky to have her. She is the true definition of what nursing is meant to be - healing, comforting, protecting, and loving people in their hardest moments.
