Anja Kerschl, RN
It is a heartfelt wish of mine to recognize Nurse Anja’s exceptional dedication and to nominate her for the DAISY Award. When a hospital patient awakens early in the morning, and the daily routine is about to begin, their sense of well-being is often far from uplifting. In such moments, Nurse Anja’s contagious positivity truly stands out. Whenever she enters the room, she does so with a radiant smile—always kind, always compassionate. She exudes a calmness and serenity that immediately puts patients at ease, easing their worries about the day and the treatments ahead. Through her very presence, she helps them relax, regain confidence, and focus on their recovery. At the same time, she conveys professionalism, competence, and reassurance, creating an atmosphere of trust and safety. Every movement of hers reflects precision and confidence—one feels genuinely safe and cared for. She makes each patient feel welcome and valued, never like an inconvenience or just another task to complete.
All of this she accomplishes while working under the immense pressures nurses face every day: physical demands such as irregular hours, rotating shifts, understaffing, time constraints, and the physical strain typical of the profession; as well as emotional challenges like balancing family life and work, carrying the weight of great professional responsibility, coping with the frequent lack of recognition for such selfless service, and taking on additional duties that extend beyond her official role. Despite these challenges, Nurse Anja’s unique spirit shines through. Through her extraordinary empathy and professionalism, together with the wonderful team on Ward 24, she made my treatment and hospital stay at the University Hospital Regensburg not only successful but truly uplifting. It is therefore essential to me to express my profound respect and heartfelt gratitude by nominating Nurse Anja for the DAISY Award. Nurse Anja demonstrates an extraordinary passion for her work!
