I would like to recognize Ann for the compassion and comfort she gave me during one of the hardest moments of my life.
After a three-day failed induction, I was exhausted, emotional, and terrified going into my C-section. I was scared of such a major surgery and worried for the safety of my baby. Ann reassured me that the NICU team would be there to monitor him as soon as he was born, which helped calm some of my fears.
What meant the most to me was that while I was being prepped for surgery, she sat down beside me and held my hand as I cried. I shared with her the long journey that brought me there: the countless IVF procedures where I had spent years lying on tables staring at ceilings, praying that one day all of that pain, hope, and heartbreak would lead me to becoming a mother. And then, in that operating room, I found myself once again lying on a table staring at the ceiling — but this time waiting to finally meet my baby boy.
That small gesture of kindness and compassion made such a huge impact on my birth experience — more than I think Ann will ever know. She made me feel comforted, cared for, and less alone during such a vulnerable moment.
