Ann Petersen, who is a veteran herself, is being recognized for her efforts that went above and beyond the call of duty as a nurse. A patient complimented her for being such a strong advocate for him, helping him by writing a four-page letter to assist in his discharge. He said she is "kind, compassionate, non-judgmental, and very patient," stating "I have been fighting for someone to hear my story... [and] appreciate so much for all she did for me. She is committed to all of us veterans and it shows." He expressed his satisfaction about the VA, stating "I have been treated very well here and I could not be more pleased with all the VA did for me and will do for me going home."
