Ann Moss has devoted her life’s work to the compassionate care of others.  She works on 2 North, a medical-surgical unit, at Atrium Health Mercy where she shares the organization’s vision to be the national leader for health, learning, and the community.  Ann goes to great lengths to exceed customer expectations by providing services and education well beyond what is anticipated.  She is being nominated for her dedication to nursing through active mentoring, role modeling, advocating for her patients, and promoting the positive image of nursing.  She consistently acknowledges others with eye contact and a smile. She serves as a beacon of inspiration to those at all stages of their career and in the various and important roles of nursing.  Peers state, "Ann is awesome and I'm so excited when I see her here."   She works in accordance with the organization’s mission statement to improve health, elevate hope, and advance healing for all.

Ann received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Lander University located in Greenland, South Carolina in 1993.  She worked on a Telemetry Step-Down unit in Texas and moved periodically throughout her career as her husband was in the Army.  In Oklahoma, she worked in the Coronary Care unit, Cath lab, and in Home Health.  She moved to Georgia and worked as an Operative Room Circulator.  In 2002, Ann moved to Germany where she worked in Pre-Op, PACU, and Health Clinics. In 2006, Ann began her career in nursing education as a Practical Nurse Instructor at Northland Career Center located in Missouri.  She developed, organized, and taught a competency-based program for students completing Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Instruction. She supervised students’ clinical experiences at area hospitals and coordinated with other community agencies and facilities to achieve program and state-mandated goals.  She received her Master of Science in Nursing Healthcare Education in 2008 from the University of Phoenix.

A few years later, she moved to Kansas where she became a nursing instructor for the Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) program at National American University.  She was a member of the ASN Assessment and Curriculum Committee.  Within a year, Ann was the Interim Chair of the ASN Program and eventually the Program Chair for the Zona Rosa Campus in 2012.  She oversaw all aspects of the nursing program and student outcomes.  She reported on matters relating to teaching, advising students, curriculum development, program revisions, clinical site management, textbook selection, student learning outcomes assessment, and other matters as assigned in support of the mission of the School of Nursing.  She later accepted the position as the Program Chair of the BSN Program at Overland Park Campus in 2016.

In 2017, Ann became part of the Nursing Faculty at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She provided individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and groups of clients throughout the lifespan in a variety of settings. She facilitated students in the teaching-learning process; contributed to the development of curriculum and course objectives; served as clinical, class, and lab instructor and contributed to the administration of the nursing program.  In addition, she was also a part-time clinical instructor, advised nursing students, and actively participated in student and program evaluations. She was a member of the CPCC Nursing Education committees.

In 2018, Ann started working as a nurse on 2 North at Atrium Health Mercy.  Ann is proud to work at Mercy, a Planetree and Magnet Hospital.  Ann communicates in a positive, professional, and courteous manner at all times.  She role models appropriate behaviors and communication tactics for her teammates.  She is a preceptor to new grads and actively coaches others on how to effectively identify and respond to patients' issues and needs.  She follows up with patients and co-workers to ensure they have up-to-date information.  Ann is an active member of the Unit Base Council.  Her involvement and feedback have helped push best practices for our unit.  Ann can get the team to understand a vision or a new opportunity; moreover, she channels the energy she creates into action.  She suggests ideas and works with others to implement environmental changes that are conducive to healing to benefit patients and families.  In addition, she remains composed even in stressful situations and shows utmost respect in all communications. She displays a competent and professional demeanor in dealing with vulnerable populations.

In 1993 when Ann became a nurse, she also joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.  This sorority is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. As a sisterhood comprised primarily of Black, college-educated women, the Sorority seriously considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans.   Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and the strengthening of African American families have evolved.  Ann has been involved in countless health fairs, and college fairs, and provides needs-based programs.  The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.
