I observed Ann doing an exceptional job of taking care of a patient with cancer who, unfortunately, was losing the battle. The patient was confused, in pain, and got very short of breath with activity. Ann was patient, kind, and compassionate. She allowed the patient to do all he could for himself to maintain his dignity. She was not only attentive to his needs but also to the needs of his family. She was honest and educated them on his plan of care. She was also a big advocate for the patient by communicating well with the doctors on what could be done to keep him comfortable. I feel like Ann went above and beyond while providing care for this patient. I was moved by the care she was giving and hope that I, too give or receive that kind of care myself.
