Ann demonstrated exceptional dedication to the well-being of veterans by identifying and thoroughly considering the unique needs of a patient before surgery. Recognizing the importance of fully understanding the patient’s medical history, Ann took the initiative to consult with the veteran’s sister as the patient was alert and oriented x1. Ann discovered critical information – the veteran was taking a medication that should have been stopped before surgery to minimize potential complications. She also learned that the veteran experienced recent falls, which were not followed up on by a doctor, and was still suffering from some symptoms from the fall. Ann immediately communicated her concerns to the surgery team. As a result, surgery was cancelled, preventing potential complications and ensuring the veteran’s safety. Ann’s attention to detail and her proactive approach to identifying and addressing these concerns highlight her unwavering commitment to the veterans in her care.
