October 2021 Honoree
Anna Chen, BSN, RN
Anna was one of the nurses who helped care for my son and me immediately after my C-section. Although she was not my primary nurse, she helped get us settled along with a few other nurses when we were transferred to our new room from the recovery room. While getting us settled with the other nurses, Anna performed a thorough physical assessment on our new baby boy. Upon her assessment, she questioned a vague abnormality in his exam that we could never thank her enough for. Because of how vague this was it could have very easily been overlooked and we are forever grateful for Anna’s meticulous and detail-oriented exam. She immediately questioned this component of his exam, brought it up to the team and he was taken to ultrasound for further investigation in a very short period of time. When he returned from his ultrasound, we were delivered the news that he would need an emergent very time-sensitive surgery. Transport was immediately arranged and he was transferred as soon as possible. Luckily our son was able to receive his surgery within the first 10 hours of his life and surgery was a great success. With Ana catching this so early, we truly feel that this highly contributed to the success of our son’s surgery.
Thank you, Anna, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
