I stand before you today with a sense of gravitas and immense pride. My heart swells as I reflect on the tireless efforts of a dear friend and teammate, Anna Gear. Anna, today it is our privilege to recognize you with the esteemed DAISY Award.

I'm reminded of one frosty morning during our military training, an ungodly hour before the sun would even think of breaking the horizon. Even as the bitter cold threatened to freeze our resolve, DI M belted across the barracks, "In our ranks, we do not forget. We do not forget to honor, to respect, and to appreciate those among us who uphold our values with extraordinary grit."

This brought back memories when I came across Anna's unyielding efforts in her, oftentimes, thankless job. Anna was there, chipping away in silence, her dedication undeterred, her spirit unbroken. I remember how she single-handedly handled the most daunting tasks without the slightest waver in her determination or the smallest crease between her brows. She embodied the ethos of a soldier, in a field far from any battlefield, but no less demanding.

At that moment, Sergeant M's words echoed in my ears, and I knew that Anna’s relentless dedication deserved recognition. For no amount of effort, however discreet or understated, should go unnoticed.

So, today, as we stand in tribute to Anna Gear, we also stand to remember: remember to notice steadfastness in uncharted territories, remember to appreciate underlying grit under the façade of simplicity, and remember to honor those like Anna, who infuse their work with such rare bravery and heart.

Anna, your work may seem thankless, but please know today, we are all grateful for you. Your work ethic and spirit of dedication reflect in everything you do and fill those around you with enormous inspiration.

Thank you, Anna, for reminding us about the power of tenacity and integrity. You are a true soldier of this profession, and the DAISY Award is just a small token of our recognition and gratitude for your invaluable contributions.
