Anna is intelligent and staff can count on her. She is kind and communicates well with all of our staff. She helps facilitate multidisciplinary care for our patients. She is a great teacher and helps new staff grow and flourish on our unit. She fosters a teamwork atmosphere and often helps diffuse difficult situations. She is reliable and accountable to get the job done with a smile on her face. She adheres to our best practices and motivates staff to do the same.
We had a patient on our unit who was very forgetful and thought she had not been fed or bathed during the shift. She had a tracheostomy in place and communication with the patient was difficult. Anna took the extra time when rounding to stop and sit with the patient. She listened to the patient's story and reminded her about the bath she had gotten earlier in the day. She had fallen asleep with the last meal but had eaten her breakfast. Anna offered to get her something else because the food was too old to eat now. She explained why her primary nurse was not able to feed her the lunch earlier because she was too drowsy to stay awake to eat it. The patient did end up remembering the events and was very grateful our team leader sat with her and talked her though it all.
Sometimes in nursing, we find we go into a room, do what we need to get done, and then leave. Anna does not do that. She goes in, introduces herself, and she does what the patient needs her to do which is a big difference. She makes a difference in the lives of patients and staff on a daily basis. She is the JPS experience!
