I hadn't seen Anna for a year but when I went back it was as if we hadn’t missed a beat. There she was asking about my children by name my grandchildren my parents.
In 2019, I was diagnosed with pancreatic stage 4 cancer with metastasis. I started chemo in August at UNMC Buffett Cancer Center but found out that I could do it at Bellevue Medical Center and quickly switched. Anna was my first nurse. I was scared sick and I knew nothing about this whole stage 4 cancer but Anna answered all my questions and made not only me but my family feel comfortable with everything. I wasn't just a number and I felt like part of a family there. Every time I went she knew my name my children's names my grandchildren's names and if I was having an issue she made sure to get it taken care of. When I had to switch doctors I had to start going to the Buffet Cancer Center but then found out I could go back to Bellevue. I would just meet with my doctor on a different day. At that time I found out that the Bellevue Medical Center Cancer Unit was shut down for a while due to COVID. I hadn't seen Anna for a year but when I went back it was as if we hadn’t missed a beat. There she was asking about my children by name my grandchildren my parents. She knew I had just lost my dad and she was very comforting. I once told Anna about my love of squirrels and when I walked in today she had a squirrel feeder that looked like a picnic bench. Oh my goodness, I can't wait to get home. I was telling my children and my husband about it and they weren't surprised at all - they just said that's Anna. It's the little things, it's the big things, it's everything. Anna always makes me feel like I was heard and I appreciate that more than anything. I'm terminal. My numbers are growing and I'm scared, but Anna comforts you in a way like no other. She's more than a nurse. She makes you feel like a friend or a family member and my family and I appreciate that more than anything. She goes above and beyond anything I could have imagined.
