I would like to recognize Anna for her outstanding care and consideration for our patients and their families. She puts passion into every shift that is greatly appreciated. Most recently, Anna and I shared a patient who was End of Life. It was a difficult situation that escalated much quicker than expected. As the nurse, Anna had to work constantly to find a balance between protecting her patient and respecting the family. It was two weeks of many difficult conversations, advocating to the doctors and the families to provide the patient with the care she deserved. Anna never once gave up, she pushed through the weight of the emotions to bring the patient the dignity and respect she deserved all the way until the end. Her attitude was one of kindness and concern, she remained at her best to bring the patient the best she could.
Anna went above and beyond to comfort the patient and her family. It was a difficult social situation that involved many different members from parents, step-parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and the patient's own daughter. She provided emotional support and a safe space for the family to actively grieve. It was her compassion that had the greatest impact. The patient's mother told me multiple times how she felt comfortable leaving her daughter in Anna's care because "she always does right by her". Our mission statement is "Kids deserve the best." Anna worked hard to make that a reality for this patient all the way through.
