I was admitted to UT Health at about 2 a.m. and was in pain. I had been through this before and knew I would have an NG tube put in again and was wanting to refuse. A nurse rushed up to me and began to take over the situation. After a quick greeting, she was so calm and confident that I began to change my mind.

In rapid motion (it seemed) someone said, “We need a smaller one” and was gone and returned in the blink of an eye. I was given a glass of water with a straw and thought “They know what they are doing.” I relaxed and did whatever I was told. My nose is practically closed on the right side where I have a deviated septum. I was even allowed to sip the water. Suddenly the drama was over, the NG tube was in place and I had to feel it taped in place to believe it. I wanted to thank her personally.
