My sister-in-law was a patient several times, suffering from cancer and several related illnesses. She was finally admitted to the ICU at the beginning of September, obviously in the final stages of her illness. This nurse was one of the many wonderful nurses who cared for her and was present when the family gathered to say goodbye. She was an inspiration to our family, displaying grace, empathy, and compassion, and made a very difficult situation a bit easier for all of us. She continually monitored my sister-in-law, ensuring she was comfortable, while also being a reassuring presence to family members I can't imagine that was an easy assignment for her, with the high level of emotion in the room, but she remained professional and was a calming influence. My brother was very appreciative, giving her a big hug before we left. She is a credit to the nursing field and to St Joseph Hospital, and she should be proud of the difference she made that day.
