Anne got to know me and my family so well. We thought of her as family.
It’s difficult to find the words to describe my appreciation for Anne. My journey began back in 2019. I was 27 weeks pregnant and admitted to Mease Countryside Hospital. It was my 1st overnight stay that made me unsure of the outcome of this pregnancy. Anne was my nurse that night, and from the moment we met, she was able to ease my anxiety with her warm heart and caring bedside manner. She had to help walk me into the bathroom with my cart, which as a first-timer, was incredibly embarrassing. Anne had a way of making me laugh through it all and lighten my spirits.
I ended up being in the hospital for over 2 months before having my baby. During that time, Anne got to know me and my family so well. We thought of her as family. I shared many laughs with her, and we shed tears together, too. She always made me feel like I was the only patient she had that day (when I know the moment she walked out of my room she was running in circles caring for other patients).
On the day I had my baby, Anne was right there with me in the delivery room. I meant to submit her for this award after I was discharged, but life got in the way, and I feel terrible for this delay of recognition. Fast forward to this year, when I was admitted to the hospital again with my final pregnancy and the same exact diagnosis. Sure enough, Anne was still here and the level of care I received was just as stellar! I was expecting to deliver this baby around 34 weeks. In a matter of minutes, there was a whole team of new faces surrounding my bed, preparing me to go in for a c-section. As I looked around the room, I was numb and scared. Scared because my husband wasn’t here, scared because I was going to deliver a baby early.
In that moment as I was looking around the room, I saw Anne and knew that everything was going to be okay. Her warm smile and confident eyes assured me that I was in good hands. I had always said, if I could hand-pick my nurse for this last delivery, it would be Anne. How the stars aligned for me that day with Anne being there makes me grateful every day. Anne is everything this award is about: kind-hearted, compassionate, strong clinical skills, and an impeccable commitment to the highest standard of care. BayCare is lucky to have her, but I feel even luckier! My family and I will always be thankful for her, and she will always be a part of our story.
