Anne took her time explaining the process to the child and answering any questions or concerns and even asked if the child had any worries about their body.
Anne is an amazing nurse, and it is hard to pick just one example of why she is a DAISY Nurse. If having to choose, I would pick a phone interaction she had. As a part of Anne’s role in the CARE Clinic, Anne attends Forensic Interviews at the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center (RRCAC) as a part of the multidisciplinary team. Anne attended a Forensic Interview where a medical exam was made available to the child based on their disclosure. Due to events occurring at the clinic at that time, Anne was unable to meet with the child and parent at the RRCAC to discuss the medical exam. In follow up to this, Anne placed a phone call to the mother to provide all of the information and education on the CARE Clinic that would have been given if able to have met in person. Anne took her time with the parent and answered all of the parent’s questions and concerns in a way that was easy to understand. But Anne did not stop there. Anne then had the parent pass the phone to the child so Anne could speak directly with them. Anne was able to ensure that this child had understanding and control of the medical exam. Anne took her time explaining the process to the child and answering any questions or concerns and even asked if the child had any worries about their body. Anne went above and beyond to ensure that the child and parent understood the medical examination and felt comfortable with being put in what could be a vulnerable situation. In total, Anne was on the phone for close to 20 minutes, just making sure that there were no questions and that the child and parent were comfortable with the medical exam. This is just one example of the many times that Anne had displayed her great skill in providing developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, sexual assault care for the pediatric patient.
