Anne McCarter, a nurse who currently works in our Surgery department, was working in Critical Care when this nomination was submitted.
Anne was nominated by the patient's family after she served as a support person while the family coped with the passing of a loved one. During the patient's final hours, Anne compassionately explained all the options and even helped organize a family meeting with the physician to help them make some difficult decisions. Anne went above and beyond to help the family honor the patient's final wishes including finding a priest to do the final blessing.
Once the patient passed, Anne did everything she could to help the family including helping out-of-state family members return home.
Anne truly went above and beyond to help this patient's family during a devastating time.
